Overview

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for repairs and preventative maintenance on buildings, facilities, equipment, fixtures and systems, plus setup, operation and repair of machines on the bottling and disgorging lines. The Maintenance Technician safetly operates under limited supervision and will troubleshoot, repair and maintain facility plumbing, mechanical and electrical systems and production line machines. S/He will conduct preventative maintenance actions, such as lubrication, cleaning and filter changes and may do limited carpentry and painting.  Responsible for safe working for self and all employees.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides preventative maintenance, repairs, and trouble-shooting services for machines and equipment on the bottling and disgorging lines, as well as grape press, de-stemmer, pumps, filters and other press pad and winery equipment.
  • Performs basic electrical troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and repairs to the winery buildings and equipment including basic carpentry, painting, light bulb/filter changes and other activities as needed. 
  • Under direction of Maintenance Manager monitors facility systems, including heating, cooling, glycol, electrical and plumbing; make repairs and PM as needed.
  • Interprets technical documents (prints, manuals) as required.
  • Occasional fabrication and/or repair on equipment and parts, including plumbing and piping with PVC and copper. Performs basic welding operations (TIG and Stick).
  • Maintains shop machines, tools and facilities with emphasis on good housekeeping and organization.
  • Responds to emergency maintenance calls as needed.
  • Responsible for Safety, making safety recommendations and ensuring safe working conditions for all equipment and systems and employees.

 

 OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participates in seasonal harvest-related work including forklift work unloading grape trucks, loading grapes into presses winery sanitation, weigh grapes, press operation, cellar work, and barrel work.
  • Working Nights as needed seasonally.
  • May operate bottling equipment, such as capsule machine, labelers, fillers, cappers, freezers, etc.
  • Assist in setup and cleanup activities in production and warehouse, including cleaning of labeler parts, hosing down floors, and storing packaging materials.
  • Ensure that the Gloria Ferrer Culture is consistently supported in all business and employee interactions.   Including, safety, ethical and legal aspects, complaining state and federal law and GF policies and producers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required and or 2 – 3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be self-starter and work with limited supervision.
  • Have basic electrical troubleshooting skills; conduit running/wiring and/or PLC experience a plus.
  • Have basic understanding of refrigeration/HVAC & hot water systems.
  • Have good communication skills, be able to read and write in English and perform basic mathematical calculations. Spanish helpful but not required.
  • Be able to read and understand technical manuals and publications.
  • Must be organized with good follow through and time management skills.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk and hear.  The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. 

 

  • Must be able to work outdoors in extremes of heat/humidity/cold and other inclement weather conditions
  • Must be able to walk on uneven ground
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to see clearly enough to a) drive safely b) recognize employees c) work on computers for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to work long hours when required.
  • Must be able to sustain the repeated use of hands as well as long periods of standing, sitting, walking and bending
